How to get your Website to the First Page of Google Search Results

Introduction

After years of developing & marketing Websites online, I've read thousands of articles, blogs, commentaries, comments, and you name it, on the subject of search engine optimization (or SEO as it's now traditionally called).

People ask me all the time, questions like, "so should I hire a company to optimize my Website?" Or, "... so what am I doing wrong, I've got this great Website but no one is visiting it; what should I do?"

Getting ranked on the first page of Google for any keyword or phrase isn't an easy task. If you're going to take on the challenge of doing this yourself, then be prepared to work! You either have to have a lot of money or a lot of time, and for most people the former doesn't hold true so get ready to put in some "sweat equity".

First of all, it's important to understand how the Google Page Rank system works. A Google Page Rank is a term that was originally derived from a abstract entitled "The Anatomy of a Large-Scale Hypertextual Web Search Engine" (see resources below for a link to the online abstract) written by the creators of Google, Sergey Brin and Lawrence Page. In it, they described in detail, the inner organic workings of a search engine, and specifically their theorem on the computation of search engine results via a Page Rank System through Google's search engine. Their argument was that their new computation of popularity based on Hypertext Linking (or the links you would click on to take you from one Web page to another Web page, or one Website to another Website), was a far superior system that would provide better and cleaner search engine results, allowing you to find what you were looking for quicker (and without the human interference that they argued existed in search engines during the mid-90s).

So why is this so important? Well, in essence, your popularity on the Web (your Page Rank) will be determined by the number of links that are linking into your site with specific keywords and just how popular the pages are that contain those links into your site (amongst some other elements). While the actual algorithm is beyond the scope of this article, it's simply important to note that in order to get ranked high, you need several "high quality" links with your keywords coming into your site. By "high quality", of course I mean the page that's linking into you must have a high order of importance (relationally speaking on average to other Websites on the Web). For example a link from a site like Yahoo.com will be of much higher quality, then say, a site like myfavoritecookies.com.

So how do you get started getting your site to the first page of Google?

Things You'll Need

  • A clear understanding of your targeted keywords for your Website.
  • An ability to develop content, such as through an online blog.
  • A lot of patience. Ranking on the first page of Google will take anywhere between 6 to 12 months (with at least 20-30 hours of work per month).

Steps

1 Step One

Your first step will be to understand the specific keywords that are applicable to your Website. While it may be nice to think as broadly as possible such as (web design, rather than seattle web design), it's important to think niche so that you can get to the top of the results quicker (inverse relationship of less results equals higher likelihood to climb the ranking quicker). For this step, think to yourself, "if I was looking for my business on the Internet, what search phrase would I use?" For example, if you own a vacation rental software business, you wouldn't want to start with the phrase "rental software" but rather "vacation rental software". Knowing the keywords people might search for your business with is critical to the success of your online presence.

2 Step Two

Research your competitors. Check out the sites that rank on the first page of Google and take a careful look at how their site looks by examining their source code through your browser. But be careful not to copy content or META tags as search engines will pick up on this and penalize your site. It's very important to BE ORIGINAL.

3 Step Three

Knowing your keywords and analyzing your competitors is one thing, but designing a site that takes advantage of those keywords is an entirely arduous undertaking in and of itself. There are several criteria that come into play with Website elements to improve the search engine awarness of your Website for your targeted keywords.

These elements are:

a) META Tags

b) Page Title

c) Image ALT tags

d) Website text

e) SITEMAP.

There are several rules to follow when designing and coding your site for search engine awarness (or having a professional do it for you). While the entire spectrum of rules is beyond the scope of this article (but will be addressed in an article to follow), here are a few basic tips (also see the resources below for links to valuable information regarding Web SEO-driven design & coding).

a) Make sure your keywords are seen in your Keyword & Description META Tags at least three times but not more than seven.

b) Make sure that your page title contains your site keywords at least once but not more than three times.

c) Make sure that your site has at least three instances of your keywords in Image ALT tags and make sure that all your images have ALT tags that are descriptive to the actual image.

d) Make sure your Website text has at least three instances of your keywords and not more than seven per Web page (more than that may be considered keyword SPAMING by the search engines).

e) Create a sitemap for your Website (see sitemaps.org for more info).

4 Step Four

We've all heard the cliche that "content is king", and getting ranked high will certainly involve some element of the creation of "content" (in addition to your link popularity). Content can come in the form of articles, well-phrased comments, intuitive blogs, and other Web-based commentary that is carefully worded and properly linked to your site with your keywords (check out sites like blogger.com, wordpress.com, and blogspot.com for online blogs).

5 Step Five

Signup for an analytics software package such as Google analytics (free at www.google.com/analytics/). You'll need to learn how to read analytics to see how your progress of visits to your site is coming. You can also run your own searches on Google daily to see where your site is listing in the search engine results.

6 Step Six

Market, Market, Market. You need to market yourself every day and in every way that you can. Build links to your site on blogs, through comments, through press releases, through your local chamber of commerce publications, in print, on Craigslist, and just about anywhere you can. Also, the more info on your site, the better, so build that content and use it to spread the word about your site.

7 Step Seven

Have Patience. This process is going to take you a good 6 to 12 months. You need to build content and create links daily to get ranked high. Remember, Google will need to believe that your site is more important (link wise & content wise) then your competitors for your given keywords, so you have some work ahead of you.

8 Step Eight

Use your contacts. If you have contacts at other Websites, try to get them to link to you. Also, find directories online applicable to your Website and try to get listed there with your keywords or just with a link. The more links into your site, the better!

How to Research Keywords

Introduction

In order to rank higher in the search engines, you have to pick popular keywords and place them throughout your website content as well as in your META tags. Keep reading to find out how to research keywords using Nichebot, a free keyword research tool. Then, after you've discovered the most popular keywords related to your website, edit your website so you can make it more search engine friendly.

Things You'll Need

  • Internet access
  • Website
  • Keyword research tool

Steps

1 Step One

Think of words related to your website that people might enter into the search engines to find you. For example, let's assume you sell writing services. People may search for you using writing services as the keyword phrase. And there you have it, a keyword phrase to help get you started.

2 Step Two

Enter your keyword pharase to search for related words

Go to Nichebot (see the resources below for other free tools to help you research keywords). Once you've arrived at the Nichebot website (see resources), type writing services in the keyword research tool's box, select Overture from the drop down menu and then click on "Search" to begin your keyword research (refer to the screenshot on your left).

3 Step Three

The results

Browse the results and write down the keyword phrase or phrases with the most number of searches. Using Nichebot, we can see that the top four keyword phrases for writing services include resume writing services, writing services, document services writing and professional writing services. If resume writing is a part of the writing services you offer, then by all means, add resume writing services to your list of keyword phrases. If resume writing is not a part of the writing services you offer, don't add it to your list. Instead, keep browsing for phrases related to the kind of writing services you offer. For instance, professional writing services are popular with 569 searches in the last 30 days, and that would fit no matter what writing services you offer. As for document services writing, well, it may be popular as well, but it wouldn't sound good typing it into your website's content. However, you could try typing document writing services into Nichebot to see what results it yields.

4 Step Four

Researching your competition

Surf to Google and enter the following into the search box: inanchor:"your keyword phrase" inurl:"your keyword phrase." Replace "your keyword phrase" with one of the keyword phrases you just wrote down. This process lets you study how much competition exists for that keyword phrase; the lower the number the better.

5 Step Five

If the number is under one million, circle it. If the number is over one million, draw a line through that keyword phrase, because you don't want it. In our sample screenshot above, when checking the competition for writing services, we see the number is 582 … well below one million. Therefore, we definitely want to circle this keyword phrase!

6 Step Six

Continue to research keywords by checking the competition numbers for each keyword phrase you wrote down from your keyword research at Nichebot. Remember, circle all the keyword phrases that return a number under one million, because these will be the keywords you want to use on your website and in your META tags.

How to When to Consider an SEO Company

Introduction

The key to getting your website or online business noticed is search engine optimization. Search engine optimization is an online marketing method best left to professionals. Read the steps below to know when to consider using an SEO company to help you.

Things You'll Need

  • Website or online business

Steps

1 Step One

Try finding your own website. Pretend you're a customer looking for a service you offer. For example, if you sell antique popcorn makers, go to Google and Yahoo and Altavista and type in "antique popcorn makers." If your website appears low on the list of results, or not at all, you could benefit from an SEO company.

2 Step Two

Keep your customers up to date. Customer retention is an important part of increasing business. Return customers account for a large portion of sales, and the best way to keep them coming back is a newsletter. An SEO company that specializes in custom content can easily craft an enticing newsletter for you.

3 Step Three

Increase your traffic and back links. One way to increase your traffic is to get other popular sites to link to yours. A large part of search engine optimization is cultivating relationships with other sites to encourage relevant linking that yields more hits and page views for both sites.

4 Step Four

Make your website more interesting. You may have an excellent product or service; but people surf the Internet just like they surf the channels. They don't stop to look at a site unless there's something interesting to grab them. SEO companies can help you develop intriguing, attention-grabbing content that's relevant to your product or service.

5 Step Five

Announce news about your business. An age old method for spreading the word about new developments or a new business is through the press release. These walk a fine line between journalism and advertising. They're great ways to attract new customers through news networks.

How to Write for Search Engines

Introduction

Writing for Search engines requires an eye for formatting and content in such a way search engines as well as people can read and get something from it.

Things You'll Need

  • Good Grammar, Spell Checker, Proof Reader

Steps

1 Step One

Determine what you are going to write about

2 Step Two

Before starting to actually write, create a small outline with at least 3 sections to emphasize

3 Step Three

Prioritize the sections based on importance to the overall topic as mot readers of web content browse.

4 Step Four

The first sections ( most important ) first sentence should focus on the overall topic.

i.e. This is what search engines will also focus on.

5 Step Five

If possible, try to include some bullet points in the first section. ( Search engines also focus on bullet list )

6 Step Six

Once your article is written, revisit and write a brief summary that emphasizes the 3 sections.

7 Step Seven

Have someone proof read to see if it makes sense to them.
( This is probably the most important step )

8 Step Eight

If any changes are suggested, try and incorporate these changes. ( It's very hard to be critical when you are looking at things your own way ).

How to Enhance Search Engine Optimization (SEO) with Your Web Site

Introduction

One of the major things that business owners are interested in when it comes to their Web sites is creating traffic to it. In technical terms, they want to enhance their "search engine optimization," or SEO. These steps will help you create a Web site that will be more visible in search engines.

Things You'll Need

  • Web site creation software
  • Internet browser

Steps

1 Step One

Create a Web site using software like Front Page or Adobe Dreamweaver.

2 Step Two

When choosing your domain name, select a name that accurately describes your business. Choosing a name that is close to the front of the alphabet should help your site come up sooner in search engines (for example, "www.AmericanPlumbing.com" rather than "www.FredsPlumbingSuperstore.com".)

3 Step Three

Decide which keywords you want to be associated with your site. Choose words that are used commonly in search engines. Enter the keywords in the html coding of your pages. You can enter different words in each page, but be careful not to use too many keywords as this may have the opposite effect of what you're trying to achieve.

4 Step Four

Incorporate your keywords in the actual names of your Web pages. For example, if you want people to find your plumbing site when they type in "commercial plumbing" in the search engine, name your pages "commercialplumbingprices.htm," "commercialplumbingtips.htm," etc.

To create this website, it should contain a quantitative as well as qualitative data that is extremely easy to use, read and understand. It should also be appealing and interesting enough to keep readers returning to your site. You can create a website on your own if you have the knowledge of HTML, java script and FTP. Otherwise you can get a website made from professional designers online in the following way.

Things You'll Need

  • Internet
  • Website
  • Good content
  • Computer

Steps

1 Step One

Visit any search engine and search for website creators.

2 Step Two

Click on the one that is most appealing to you and create an account.

3 Step Three

Select the style of your website, including the template, colors of the text and background, image and where your company name appears.

4 Step Four

Create your home page, which would include details about you, your company and other product and service details.

5 Step Five

Include a contact page that includes the e-mail address or phone number to reach your company.

6 Step Six

Create a domain name for your site. You can buy your own domain name as your web designing site provides you with this option.

7 Step Seven

Get web space for your site to be shown on. Submit your sites to major and minor search engines.

Tips & Warnings

  • To create a top site website, you have to make the site look extremely flawless and the service it provides should be extraordinary.
  • Give your site a combination of usable information attractively designed and easy to access.
  • Make sure that your content is very precise, so that while someone is doing a search on a relevant word, it matches correctly.

How to Help Promote Your Podcast by Tagging Your Text

Introduction

Tagging your text is a good way to generate traffic. Many search sites use tags to help generate helpful search results. Associating your podcast with certain tags will help people find your work easier.

Things You'll Need

  • computer
  • a podcast to work with

Steps

1 Step One

In order to add tags to your podcast, you go to your text description.

2 Step Two

Include text links in your text description.
Here's one way to do this: Technorati is a blog search engine that uses tags to generate their results. A test link would look like this:

rel="tag">keyword

Just copy and paste the html and change the "keyword" accordingly. << rel="tag">> is the important part to make sure you include.

Another example:

rel="tag">keyword

3 Step Three

For small amounts of content with one user, tagging text manually is a good way to go. If you're working with bigger things, you might want to consider web services that automatically extract tags from text. Two free services are Tagthe.net (TTN) and Yahoo's Term Extracter (YTE).

4 Step Four

Icerocket is another example of a search engine that recognizes tags. Tag pages often get indexed on Google. Once you're finished tagging, people who search through the tag pages will be able to find your podcast. More exposure will hopefully lead to more traffic and more listeners

How to Boost Traffic to Your Website

Introduction

So you've got a website--now what? You'll probably want to get some return on your investment. And the best way to do that is to increase your website's traffic. You may think that just having a site out there means that you'll have traffic--not so. Search engines know your site is new--and they have no interest in it until others do. That's where raising your traffic comes in. With more people going to your website, it can transfer into more sales and more business. Here are a few tips to help you boost your audience.

Things You'll Need

  • Computer
  • SEO Books

Steps

1 Step One

Advertise your site. Clearly it's vital to tell people about your new website. Make sure to put your URL on .all of your marketing materials. Feature it on your advertisements, business cards, letterhead, email signature, etc.

2 Step Two

Get posted. There are plenty of places online where you can input your web address. You should start with websites that cater to your target market. Otherwise, search for resource databases in your industry and submit your link.

3 Step Three

Go au natural. There are ways to get your website noticed naturally. Because the engines are constantly scanning for new content, they will pick up your site, read the content and rate your website based on a mathematical equation. When people search the Web for content that matches the copy on your site, your site will come up in natural results.
To increase your chances of getting noticed, make sure header tags and meta tags feature the search terms you want to be known for. Put some of these terms throughout your copy if you haven't already. You can also switch links with other sites to gain more popularity.

4 Step Four

Use pay-per-click. If you do this, which entails purchasing keywords, you will have to pay.

5 Step Five

Add a blog. More content means more traffic. So anyway you can work in your SEO search terms aside from your meta tags and headers--and in the copy--is a plus.

Tips & Warnings

  • Pick up a book or read some blogs on SEO. It's easy to pick up the terminology and learn more about getting better traffic.

How to Optimize Your Website for Search Engines

Introduction

The objective of Search Engine Optimization is to increase web visitor counts by ranking very high in the results of searches using the most appropriate keywords describing the content of your site. Below are some tips to help you accomplish this goal.

Things You'll Need

  • Web site

Steps

1 Step One

Avoid site design issues. Certain web site designs give some search engine problems. For the best results, avoid the following:

Use of Frames.
Use Dynamic URLs.
Use of Flash.
Use of Image Maps for navigation.
Use of Javascript for navigation.

2 Step Two

Select a powerful title tag. This is the most important criteria since most search engines place the highest level of importance on this tag. Try to keep your text between 50-80 characters as there is a limit and try to include both the site title and a keyword phrase.

3 Step Three

Optimize every page on your website. This is often overlooked and can help you compete with your competition for less widely used keywords

4 Step Four

Optimizing your Page Content. Always keep in mind as you write site content he keywords your page is targeting so that you can rank better within search engines.

5 Step Five

Add the keyword and description meta tags. While search engines don't place as much importance on these two tags as they used to - it is still important to add them in to each page and include relavent keyword phrases.

6 Step Six

Add alt attributes to image tags. Some search engines do look at alt attributes, so it is best if you provide a brief keyword phrase to each of your images.

7 Step Seven

You should not try and trick search engines as they have extensive rules for what they consider spamming and will actually penalize your site for these violations (see the warnings)

8 Step Eight

Related Links. Links from related or relevant sites are more important than generic links from unrelated websites. Links are seen as "votes" of quality content. Search engines weigh links from websites that contain related or similar content more importantly, than links from unrelated websites. Work to obtain relevant quality links from related or authority websites.

9 Step Nine

Update Content. Search engines give higher preference to websites that change their content on a frequent basis. Try to add new content or webpages daily or weekly to increase a search engine spider's frequency.

How to Understand Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Introduction

If you produce Web sites, then you need to understand search engine optimization (SEO). It is not an exact science as there are differing opinions on what works best, but there are definite guidelines to follow that will help ensure that your pages become well placed in the search engine results.

Things You'll Need

  • Computer
  • Internet

Steps

1 Step One

Common sense is always the best guide. Don't force anything just because the experts say so. If getting your main keyword included a certain number of times leads to a page that is difficult to read, then don't do it. Always keep in mind that your work will be read by users who appreciate smooth-flowing text that is not stilted and unnatural.

2 Step Two

Include basic meta tags in your HTML documents. Some search engines no longer use meta tags because of abuse. You should use the keyword meta tag and the description meta tag as a minimum. The robots meta tag should only be used to indicate that the page is not to be indexed.

3 Step Three

Construct your page title tag in the head section of the document so that the main keyword appears within it, preferably close to the beginning. Include secondary keywords as well, but try to make the title flow as naturally as possible.

4 Step Four

Include an H1 page title in the body section of your HTML document that has your main page keyword within it. Include secondary keywords when possible and try to push the benefits that the page promotes.

5 Step Five

Include your main page keyword to achieve a density of 2 percent to 5 percent overall. For example, if your page has 250 words of text, you would need to include your main keyword five times to achieve a density of 2 percent.

6 Step Six

Structure your page so that your main page keyword appears twice in the first paragraph, once in the second paragraph and is scattered throughout the rest of the text to achieve the required density. Your main page keyword should appear close to the beginning of the text, preferably the very first phrase.

7 Step Seven

Write the main body text so that each page has at least 250 words of text. This should be a minimum. Unless the focus of the page is images, forms or doesn't require much text, always provide enough text to ensure properly developed content. Around 250 to 600 words of text is a good guide. It is not too difficult to understand SEO, at least a basic level. Think of the steps more as important guidelines, rather than rigid instructions. It's okay to deviate from the guidelines occasionally as long as there's a good reason why.

Tips & Warnings

  • Provide good solid content first and foremost. Your need to understand SEO will decrease because you'll most likely find yourself doing it automatically.
  • Including a sub-headline is often a good idea. If you do this, use an H2 tag or an H3 tag.
  • Avoid including keywords that have to be forced just to achieve a density level. Your text must flow as naturally as possible and be comfortably readable. If this means a keyword density of 1.5 percent or 5.5 percent, that's OK. Just stay within the guidelines as much as possible.
  • Include your secondary keyword phrases without repeating unnecessary words. If your secondary keywords are, "blue widgets," "green widgets," "green organic widgets" and "bright blue widgets," then only include the unique words. For example, the word "widgets" appears 4 times, so only include it once. Green and blue appear twice each. Your secondary keyword list should therefore be, "widgets," "blue," "green," "organic," and "bright." Scatter these words sparingly throughout the page and the search engines will know exactly what you mean.
  • Avoid telling search engine robots to index the page as this is superfluous. They will do this by default anyway.
  • Plan your page so that you have a declining hierarchy of H tags if you use more than one. Never have a mixture that flows backwards. For example, H1, H2, H3, etc is good; H2, H1, H4, H3, is bad.

How to Publicize Your Web Site

Introduction

Get the word out! Help people from all over the world find your Web site.

Things You'll Need

Steps

1 Step One

Register your site with your favorite Internet search engines. Most search-engine sites have links (toward the bottom of the engine's home page) that say 'Add a site' or 'Add URL.' Click on these links and follow the sites' instructions.

2 Step Two

Visit Web sites such as Submit It (www.submit-it.com), which help you submit your URL to multiple search engines simultaneously.

3 Step Three

Visit sites that are related to or similar to your own, or maintained by your friends, and suggest linking to each other's pages.

4 Step Four

Join a Web ring, a group of Web sites on a particular topic that link to each other in a chain. Or start your own Web ring. Visit the WebRing site (www.webring.org) for information.

5 Step Five

Pay to place banner ads on well-trafficked Web sites; contact individual sites for their rates. Or join a free banner exchange, such as LinkExchange (www.linkexchange.com).

Tips & Warnings

  • Use META tags in your HTML pages to help your Web site come up in more search-engine results. To learn more about META tags, visit Web developer sites, such as WebDeveloper.com or InternetDay.com. For other tips about search-engine results, go to Search Engine Watch (www.searchenginewatch.com).

How to have success with your website-12 steps now

Introduction

This is very easy and informative information on how to make a website successful. There are only a few things that a person needs to do to make a website success. Here it is. Free.

Things You'll Need

  • Computer and some writing skills.
  • How to navigate the internet
  • good research

Steps

1 Step One

Okay, so you've come up with a great idea or product and want to start a website? With all the people starting up websites today, they have no idea what it really takes to become a successful website owner, and not to have to work their daytime job anymore.

I've done a fair amount of research and found out how some of the "big" guys have made it, but yet don't want you to know about it. They keep the secret close to them, becaues it could spell disaster if the secret is let out. So, I'm here to tell you everything I've learned on my own, and it don't cost a red cent.
Before building your website/blog, ask yourself this first question #1.) what idea does your site revolve around? Is it about gardening? Sports? Electronics?--Whatever it is, make sure to write down specifically what your website
is going to be about. Get a specific as possible.

2 Step Two

#2.)The next thing that you should do is build your website/blog. Come up with every bit of resource to make the site interesting with all the content that you can come up with. There are plenty of freebies out there, and I can tell you about those later on when you are building your website. When you build your site, make sure to put
meta tags in it. If you don't know what that is, there is a site that shows you on internet that I http://www.dalleh.com/HTML/Meta_Tags/meta_tags.shtml
This will help your site be indexed into the search engines when submitted. If you don't have meta tags in your site, your sit cannot be spidered by the search engines. I am trying to brief as possible so that I don't confuse you if you know nothing about the matter.

3 Step Three

#3.)Submit your site to the search engines. Don't...and I repeat...don't pay for this service to be done. Many of the search engine submitting companies want a bunch of money for things that you can do for yourself in a matter of a couple of hours at the most. It sometimes takes a few weeks before you show up in a couple of the big name search engines like www.yahoo.com and www.google.com, but I'll show you how to get around that later on in the article. There are also a lot of submission service companies out there that will submit your site for free in the major search engines if you just place their banner button upon your website.

4 Step Four

#4) Gettin' down to the nitty gritty. This is my favorite part, because I love research. Now, you may not be one that likes to dig things up; but this a crucial part of the process and is definitly needed for successs. You need to do research on your competitors. Remember when I was talking about write down specifically what your website is going to be about? Well, here is where it will come handy. Referring back to (#1), type in your key word on a big search engine such as www.yahoo.com or google.com and locate your competitor. BOOM! There they are! Your competitors that you either have to team up with, or absolutely crush to get to the top. I know it sounds ruthless when I say crush; but hey, we're talking about the internet here and not a playground. Copy each url of the sites. Copy and paste, or whatever works best for you. Go to each and every one of the websites. Write down their strengths, weaknesses (or what they are lacking). Write down everything you can find out about their site. Keep this for your records on your computer, or print it out and keep it in a folder.

5 Step Five

#5) More Research-- Copy each url that you collected information on and go to alexa.com and do a rank search at alexa.com. This site has so much infomation there. It's
incredible! This shows how many hits they are getting, and how long they've been around. Your asking why this is important, but I'm about to get to that. You can even look up information about your site. Don't think much information at all will come up about your site at first, especially if it's brand new.

6 Step Six

#6) Find the best competitors rank and find out who's linking to them I found out all about my competition there; who was linking to them, and everything about the sites on alexa.com. This is the key right here. This is where the big boys play, and where you find out who's linking to them. Find out what their rank is. Always try to find the biggest ones linking to the site. Always try to find the ones that are in the top 100,000 in the world. See what the sites are about. Your gonna find out that some of them are just forums-(message boards), or just online document saving communities in which you will save
your filed documents, images, etc.

7 Step Seven

#7) Go to the site that are linking to them and find out how or if this site is doing link trade. If it's just a forum-(message board), then join it anyway. Please make sure to get a free email address when you are doing all of this, because it could clutter up your personal email. Trust me, I've been through it and its not fun. Trying to delete or save all of this stuff can be a little bit confusing at times. Also, another thing that is pretty tough to do is remember all the passwords. So,.. write yourself emails to forward to your free account to try to keep them in order. This stuff will definitly come in handy later.

8 Step Eight

#8 Before doing a link trade with the site; make sure to already have a link back to them before asking a link. The website you've already built needs to have a link section in it. Make sure to have them placed in there. Also, you don't want to be very generic when asking for a link trade
with a site. Don't write "Dear webmaster, I would like to submit my link for a trade." It will get discarded. You have to have a reason for link trade. Give them some insight as to why you are submitting your trade with them. I'm sure if you've done your research, it is a matter of relevance in material in the site itself. Give them reasons why you like their site. Heck, I don't know any other way of putting it besides kiss their ass.

9 Step Nine

#9 keep doing it... find the highest ranking websites to link to and the relevance of your content. I know that this part seems redundent, but it is a tried and true process that works over time. Don't spam people or boards, but approach them. Write nice formal emails, or if you have a way to call them to talk to them do that. Remember, you are building a business and not a scam operation, so treat it like your business. This takes time and discipline. Eventually, you will get some good inlinks coming into your website.

10 Step Ten

#10 Start writing informative article on a subject and submitting it to several different online ezines! This is where things really start to take off for you. There are many publications out there on the internet that would love you to write your articles and submit them to their sites and ezines. Just to name one that is high on the list would be Amazines.com, amongst a list of so many that I wouldn't be able to fit in this article. You would have to contact me for that information.

11 Step Eleven

#11 Get them published on top ranking which will raise the (PR) level of your site and search engine exposure and get hits to your website just from writing good quality articles. A good example.. do you have a key interest in music or plants which is what your website is about? Do you know more about a subject more than others know?
There it is. By writing articles on certain subject matters and linking to your site/or blog can improve
search engine rankings, not to mention a lot of traffic coming your way to find out what more is on your site. So, be prepared if you are a good writer because you will be swamped

12 Step Twelve

#12 Continue to build informative subjects on your website/blog to help make it interesting. Always update your website at least one time a week, if not everyday. find all the free stuff you can to install to your website or blog. Whatever you do, keep it interesting and real. Don't ever try to just sell, sell, sell because people are a lot smarter than you think. The internet is fun and profitable as long as you take a soft approach to selling quality things to people. I have my own things to sell
amongst affiliate programs that I participate in, and if you don't have a product and need help with getting products to sell, I have no problem in helping you out there either. Don't know how to build a webiste or a blog? No problem.. I can help you do that too. Now, there is no
reason for you not to go out there and get your dreams of becoming a webmaster.
I found out all about this research through 16 hours a day of hard work on the internet right after I lost my job when my boss had a heart attack and decided to go out of business. I first started a blog for http://hotfuckedwives.thumblogger.com(WARNING- Swingers Blog- An Adult Oriented site and MUST BE 18 to enter)and then started a website for http://www.hotfuckedwomen.com Swingers(and DON't go there unless you are over the over of 18 because it is adult oriented site). They have both done very well from hard work and time. I offer more free stuff than not, but over time, it will take care of you in the long run, and it will you to if you offer a site with good content and keep honest.

How to Check Your Web Page Ranking in Search Engines

Introduction

If you are running a registered Web site, you can find out the daily traffic to your Web pages and your page ranking in popular search engines like Google or Yahoo. By following a few simple steps, you can find the Web page ranking and even enhance it by improving the Web contents and using common keywords.

Steps

1 Step One

Know that page ranking goes from 0 points to 10 points.

2 Step Two

Understand that the links to your Web site determine the ranking. The more links you get to your Web page, the higher your ranking will be. When people use a search engine to find sites on a certain topic, sites are listed according to rank. The goal is to rank as high as you can.

3 Step Three

Find the Web page ranking searching for the site on popular search engines Google, Yahoo or MSN. These engines, while displaying the Web site link, also provide their ranking.

4 Step Four

Use keywords such as "page ranking software." Search for a free or paid page ranking software that will provide personalized ranking reports to you.

5 Step Five

Install tools for determining Web page rankings (see Resources below).

6 Step Six

Enter the URL or the domain name of the Web site in the tools mentioned in the Resources section. Click on the "Calculate" button and it will display the ranking. This will also allow you to get the Web page ranking report.

How to Create Meta Tags

Introduction

Meta tags are used by a webpage designer to put any information into the header and content of their web pages. The most common types of meta tags are the title tag, keyword tag and the description tag. The information that you provide for these tags will affect how your webpage will appear in search engine results.

Steps

1 Step One

Write a title that is between 6 to 10 words. A title meta tag needs to be a certain length in order for search engine optimization to occur.

2 Step Two

Pick at least three keywords or keyword phrases for your content. The keyword meta tags must suit the content of the site and be sprinkled throughout the body of the piece.

3 Step Three

Create a short description for your content that is no longer than 200 characters. Use any keywords that you have chosen in the description.

4 Step Four

Complete other meta tags. There are additional meta tags that you can create, including author, channel and date meta tags. However, most of these are ignored by search engines.

5 Step Five

Use an online meta tag generator. If you are having trouble creating your own meta tags, there are several websites that will perform this task for you at no cost.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be aware that search engines can change the text found in your meta tags. Google is known for generating its own description of a webpage.
  • You will not have your page indexed by search engines if you utilize the robots meta tag.
